The world needs more fun.
Seriously, it does.
I let other guys dole out the dark, dour, and gritty. My goal is to have you smile while biting your nails. Feel something inside that just might be a tug on your heartstrings, or a touch of heartburn. Either way, works for me. Folks tell me I write good action, great characters, and stories that defy easy genre labels. Guess I’ll take their word for it. So if you enjoy stories that make you chuckle more than you cringe and you like a ribbon of caramel humor running through your tension brownie, and you love action met out by characters you could have a beer with, then look no further. That’s what I write.
My sense of humor? Dive into Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, 1980’s John Cusak movies, Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore, Tropic Thunder, Taika Waititi movies, and Saturday Night Live ’84-’85.
Parity authors? Read Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Janet Evanovich, Christopher Moore, Kevin Hearne, and Carl Hiaasen.
Favorite books? My Side of the Mountain, original Dragonlance Chronicles, everything by Joe Abercrombie and Scott Lynch, the Discworld series, the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O’Brian, Friday by Heinlein, the Iron Druid chronicles by Kevin Hearne, the War of Art by Pressfield, and On Writing by King.
Other loves include whiskey and whisky, travel, cooking big meals for family and friends, hiking wooded mountain trails, and seeking Zen through mixed martial arts. Born in Wisconsin, I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, matriculated in Minnesota and Alaska, and bounced around Europe with the Army. Now I love living in Colorado with my wife and daughter.
You can read my ebooks and paperbacks, catch me on YouTube and podcasts reading my stories or doing interviews, or meet me live at writers conferences, fan expos, book signings, and my local brewpub. You can find stuff bearing my name in periodicals, anthologies, shorts, novellas, and novels. I’m a proud tribe member of Superstars Writing Seminars, Pikes Peak Writers, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, and the Authors Guild.
