A Bit About Me

The world needs more fun. So if you like to smile more than you cringe or want a side of humor with your tension or enjoy action met out by sharp-witted characters, then look no further. That’s what I write.

Countless hours of Monty Python laid the foundation of my sense of fun and funny. Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Janet Evanovich, Christopher Moore, and Carl Hiaasen are my icons of wit. Joe Abercrombie, Rachel Howzell Hall, Jonathan Maberry, and John Gilstrap are my idols of pace. And the Bowen Gillings Mt. Rushmore of immersion includes Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Mary Robinette Kowal, Tolkien, and Carol Berg.

You can read my ebooks and paperbacks, catch me on YouTube and podcasts reading my stories or doing interviews, or meet me live at writers conferences, fan expos, book signings, and my local brewpub. You can find stuff bearing my name in periodicals, anthologies, ebooks, and paperbacks. I’m a proud member of Pikes Peak Writers, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, the Colorado Independent Publishers Association, and the Authors Guild.

Other loves include whiskey and whisky, travel, cooking big meals for family and friends, hiking wooded mountain trails, and seeking Zen through mixed martial arts. Born in Wisconsin, I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, matriculated in Minnesota and Alaska, and bounced around Europe with the Army. Now I love living in Colorado with my wife and daughter.

My stories are for fun-seekers, thrill-seekers, and joy-seekers. I write for those who like to smile as they read. Quirky is my touchstone. Offbeat, my muse. If you’re looking to step away from characters of dark, brooding intensity or worlds devoid of hope, then look no further. This crazy stuff is right up your alley…if you buy books in an alley. Which is creepy.
