I am a Luddite. Admission made, and made proudly. Except for a brief time in the third grade when Pinedale Elementary brought an Apple II C into each classroom and I embraced the glory that was Oregon Trail, I have always been behind the times and frustrated by technology. Like swimming against a riptide, I fight to hold the ground I’ve gained only to realize that in my struggles I have been swept further out to sea. Now there is even greater distance between me and the shores of technological advancement. In some ways I… Read Article →

My calendar has been jam-packed this last month. With a book launch, writers conference, interviews, and contests, not to mention wrapping up the school year for my daughter which adds on musical reviews and contests, concerts, track and field competitions, and a Revolutionary Ball (ask me about it later), it’s been nigh impossible getting any real writing done with so much going on. I shouldn’t complain. A full calendar is a blessing. It’s hard to waste time you don’t have. With that in mind, here are some highlights I’d like to share and, in some… Read Article →
(and Desperation) I figured it’s time to include you in a little fun (aka problem) I’m having. My current work in progress needs a title. So I’m throwing it open to you, my friends and readers, to offer up suggestions and pic the winner. Here are the rules of the contest: Story Summary: In a fantastical blend of Wild West meets Discworld, a clumsy youth with a heart to match his seven-foot frame must partner with his outlaw sorceress mother and snarky kobold best friend to save their frontier hometown from a greedy mining baron… Read Article →
I run a workshop for writers conference rookies where the bottom line is: Be Friendly. The term friend has somehow grown shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding. It’s devolved into internet chums or collected names on social media. A friend is no longer the one to call when you’re in jail or when you’re at wits end and about to do something that might land you there. So I think it’s time I put my 49+ years of worldly wisdom to work and explain just what I mean when I say, “Be Friendly.” To me, friend… Read Article →
This past weekend saw me at the 30th Annual Pikes Peak Writers Conference in Colorado Springs. This is my home conference, the one I never miss and have been loyal to since 2016. The event was a blur. What with so many fellow writers to connect with and workshops to blow my brain, it’s no wonder I came home Sunday night and collapsed in bed before my daughter was even in her PJs. PPWC continues to be amazing and it’s timing this year was perfect. And so it’s time to share with you a bit… Read Article →
It has been an exciting (and exhausting) month thus far: weird weather, kid camps, book release, and preparing myself for dual-hatting it this weekend as both emcee and faculty at the 30th Annual Pikes Peak Writers Conference. So let’s talk promos and PPWC! Exceptionals came out a week ago and my, what nice things you all have said about it (insert image of me blushing). Coinciding with the release of my first novel is a promotion around my novella A Night to Remember. Right now, you can download the ebook for $.99. Well, not on… Read Article →
Exceptionals is out and available NOW! And I have a gift for you as an enticement/thank you for being a StoriesbyBowen aficionado. My debut novel about a federal protection agent who teams up with his jilted, black belt ex-fiancé and a band of college campus oddballs to protect a young woman with extraordinary abilities from some clandestine kidnappers has arrived! Exceptionals evolved from an award-winning short story to a novel over the course of a couple years. Submissions, revisions, and hard decisions later, I am proud to bring this humorous supernatural thriller come love story… Read Article →
