(and Desperation)
I figured it’s time to include you in a little fun (aka problem) I’m having. My current work in progress needs a title. So I’m throwing it open to you, my friends and readers, to offer up suggestions and pic the winner. Here are the rules of the contest:
- Runs May 16-June 16, 2023
- Ideas must be submitted via either Facebook Direct Message (follow me at BowenGillingsAuthor) or using the storiesbybowen.com Contact Me page.
- No more than three titles submitted per person/contestant
- This is a PG-13 humorous fantasy, nothing vulgar, exploitative, or otherwise mean-spirited will be accepted
- Looking for a title five words or less in length (though if you come up with something awesome that’s longer, I’ll give it a look).
- Top 5 ideas will be posted in my June 20th blog. YOU will get to vote on your favorite (one vote per person via FB or Contact Me). Voting for best of five closes June 25 with the winner announced in my June 27 blog.

Story Summary:
In a fantastical blend of Wild West meets Discworld, a clumsy youth with a heart to match his seven-foot frame must partner with his outlaw sorceress mother and snarky kobold best friend to save their frontier hometown from a greedy mining baron whose plan to strip-mine the entire valley threatens magical armageddon.
Characters:
- Darby Norman – our hero; aspiring gardener, novice baker, and son to a famous monster hunter
- Bean – Darby’s stalwart, smart-mouthed kobold chum who knows more than he lets on
- Harriette Peculia Norman – Darby’s Ma, four years absent having run off with a Wild West show, now back with magical talents and bounty hunters in pursuit
- Junius Ringwort, Sr. – mining tycoon, the Mr. Potter of this tale
- Junius Ringwort, Jr. – his son; he hates tucking his shirt in and likes to gamble
